Overland
& Train
Turkmenistan is located on
the great overland routes of the Silk road- there are
1000's of kilometres to be covered from Turkey to the
Great Wall of China. An East-West drive across the entire
country from Bukhara in Uzbekistan to the shores of the
Caspian Sea can be done in about 4-5 days including visiting
all the shrines and important sites along the way. Another
great route for overlanders is the North-South route,
crossing the Karakum desert by road from Ashgabat
to Kunya
Urgench and Khiva. Many of our itineraries follow
along these routes and can be customised to your needs.

The
Trans-Turkestan Railway Trek - Beijing to Istanbul |
|
| The
railway routes crossing the Silk Road cities remain some
of the most fascinating railway routes in the world, despite
irregular schedules. With two new routes opened between
Serags in southern Turkmenistan and the route between
Almaty and Urumchi, Turkmenistan has the beginning of
a Trans-Turkestan Railway linking China and Europe. A
further historically important link is the Trans-Caspian
Railway connecting Bukhara and the Caspian Sea along the
paths of Central Asians great explorers. All told this
route still is an almost 48 hour ride but offers the traveller
an unforgettable experience through some of the worlds
most remarkable overlooked territory. |
