Extreme & Expedition
Central Asia has fantastic climbing, and some seriously
challengeing off-road routings in it's desert areas. The
Torugart pass and the mountaineous routings of western
Kyrgyzstan and the remoter areas of the Kopetdag
Mountain range have fascinating off-road treks for
cyclists and motorcyclists. Other extreme sports such
as paragliding and sky-diving have tremendous potential,
but there is little supportive infrastructure.
The Pamirs and Tien Shan mountain ranges boast some of
the Worlds highest peaks with Samani (Communism), Lenin
and Khan Tengri in first place, all of which are regularly
climbed by international expeditions and individual climbers.
The most interesting off-road routings are certainly in
Turkmenistan's Karakum
and Uzbekistan's Kyzylkum, both of which have to be taken
very seriously, since water and food availability is very
limited, maps inaccuarate and infrastructure practicacly
non-existent.
